This Privacy Policy explains how GuideMe ("we", "us") collects, uses and protects your information when you use the GuideMe Tourist app, the GuideMe Guide app, and this website (together, the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
- Account information — your name, email address, phone number, profile photo and language preference when you create an account.
- Guide verification documents — if you apply to be a guide, we collect identity documents and other verification materials required to approve your account.
- Location data — see section 3 below.
- Trip information — bookings, pickup and destination points, trip times, group size, prices and trip status.
- Chat messages — messages you exchange with your guide or traveller through the in-app chat.
- Payment information — payments by card are processed by our payment provider; we do not store full card numbers on our servers. We keep records of amounts, payment method and settlement status.
- Community content — posts, photos, captions, likes, follows, ratings and reviews you publish.
- Device information — device identifiers, app version and push notification tokens, used to operate and secure the Service.
2. How we use your information
- To create and match bookings between travellers and guides.
- To show live trip progress to the people involved in a trip.
- To process payments, guide earnings, wallets and payouts.
- To deliver chat messages and send important push notifications (trip requests, acceptance, reminders, payments).
- To verify guide identities and keep the community safe.
- To provide customer support and resolve disputes.
- To improve the reliability and quality of the Service.
3. Location data
Location is at the heart of the Service. With your permission, the apps collect device location:
- Travellers — to find guides near you, set pickup points, and show your trip on the map while a trip is active.
- Guides — to receive nearby trip requests and to share your position with your traveller while a trip is active.
Live location sharing between a traveller and a guide happens only in the context of an active trip. You can withdraw location permission at any time in your device settings, although core features of the Service will stop working without it.
4. Chat and safety
In-app chat exists so you never have to share your phone number. Messages are stored to deliver them across devices and to investigate reports of abuse. You can report or block another user at any time; blocking stops messages and related notifications from that user.
5. How we share information
- Between trip participants — when a booking is made, the traveller and guide see each other's name, photo, rating and relevant trip details. Guides' public profiles (bio, posts, rating, rank) are visible to travellers.
- Payment providers — to process card payments and payouts.
- Infrastructure providers — hosting, push notification and messaging services that operate parts of the Service under contract.
- Legal requirements — when required by law, or to protect the safety of users and the public.
We do not sell your personal data.
6. Data retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can request account deletion from inside the app or by contacting us; deletion is scheduled and completed after a short grace period during which you can cancel the request. Trip and payment records may be retained longer where required for accounting, fraud prevention or legal obligations.
7. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.
8. Children
The Service is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us.
9. Security
We protect data in transit with TLS encryption, restrict access to personal data internally, and use verified app integrity checks. No system is perfectly secure, but we work continuously to protect your information.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app or on this page with an updated date above.
